Neurotoxins
What is Botox? What is Dysport? What is Xeomin? What is Daxxify? How are they different?
Botox and Dysport are both used to treat and prevent wrinkles, fine lines, and deep facial furrows. By working beneath the surface, Botox and Dysport help reduce the underlying muscle activity that causes the skin to appear wrinkled or folded.
Dysport, like Botox is another neurotoxin, but it kicks in a little quicker and we find in our practice that it tends to last longer for most patients.
Xeomin is a preservative free neurotoxin that’s a great option for those who may be resistant to Botox or Dysport.
Daxxify is the newest FDA approved neuromodulator on the market. It is the first neuromodulator to use peptide exchange technology which makes it vegan. Studies have shown that its effect can last twice as long as other neuromodulators on the market. The perfect Daxxify candidate is someone that prefers a complete relaxation of their facial muscles instead of a mild relaxation of their facial muscles. Daxxify has the same safety profile as all other neuromodulators.
How much does Tox cost?
Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are all $15/unit where Daxxify is $22/unit.
While there are a wide variety of treatments, the amount of units needed for each area of the face treated is unique to each individual’s own muscle movement. We work with all budgets to come up with a treatment plan that will work for you and is still effective.
When will I see results?
Results are visible within 3-5 days, full results happen 14 days post-injection. Tox does not kick in at the same time in every area. We cannot evaluate tox results until it has been 14 days post injection.
How long do results last?
Results from Botox, Dysport, Xeomin and Daxxify are not permanent. Effects usually last on average 3-6 months, depending on which product is chosen by you and your provider. However, some patients do see their results last longer.
How many treatments will I need?
Botox, Dysport, Xeomin and Daxxify will only need one single treatment to show results. However, results last an average of 3-4 months, therefore most patients come 2-4 times a year for their neurotoxin treatments.
Will I need time to recover?
Bruising is possible, plan 3 weeks ahead of any events/vacations. After your treatment you must sit up for 4 hours, avoid touching your face for 4 hours, and no exercise (including bending, heavy lifting, yoga etc), until the next day.
Dermal Fillers
What is a dermal filler?
The facial fillers used at NM Aesthetic | Wellness are made from hyaluronic acid or calcium hydroxylapatite. Fillers are used to help restore soft tissue volume loss.
Fillers made from hyaluronic acid can be dissolved with Hylenex injections if needed. Those made from calcium hydroxylapatite can not be dissolved.
What can I expect from the procedure?
During the procedure, an injector will apply a topical anesthetic to the lips to minimize discomfort. The filler product is then injected into specific areas of the lips using a fine needle. The medical professional may massage the area to ensure even distribution of the filler.
The amount of filler used and the specific injection technique will depend on the patient’s individual needs and desired results. The procedure typically takes around 20-30 minutes to complete, and patients can resume their normal activities immediately afterwards.
Are there any side effects?
Some common side effects of lip filler include swelling, bruising, and redness, which typically subside within a few days.
What kind of results can I expect to see?
The results of the procedure are typically visible immediately and can last for several months, depending on the specific filler used and the patient’s individual metabolism.
How much does filler cost?
Because everyone’s needs are different, and with such a wide variety of treatments involving filler, a personal consultation is the best way to establish cost.
This cost not only reflects the price of the product, but also the skill, knowledge and expertise of the medical injector.
We do not price match, however, our providers will work within your budget to achieve your aesthetic goals.
When will I see results?
Results are visible immediately after treatment, however, swelling, and sometimes bruising, is a normal part of the treatment process.
Healing time varies from person to person, and we do know how long your body will need to heal.
Instructions will be given prior to your procedure to help minimize bruising/swelling and promote healing. (i.e. avoid alcohol, NSAIDS, caffeine before and after procedures. arnica/bromelain to promote healing).
Please give yourself a minimum of 2 weeks before any events or vacations in case of residual bruising and swelling.
How long do results last?
Longevity differs from person to person and from treatment to treatment. Because the product is being injected into the body, some bodies may metabolize the product faster than others. See below for average longevity based on treatment:
- Cheek Filler: 6-9 months
- Under Eye Filler: 6-12 months
- Lip Filler: 4-9 months
- Hand Filler: 9-12 months
- Lower Face Filler: 6-12 months
- Neckline/Tech-Neck Filler: 6-9 months
- Jawline Filler: 6-12 months
- Chin Augmentation: 6-12 months
- Nasolabial Fold (Smile/Laugh Lines with the fern) Filler: 6-24 months
- Earlobe Filler: 9-18 months
- Temple Filler: 6-12 months
- Sculptra: 2-3 years
How many treatments will I need?
Facial fillers are a temporary solution, and therefore to maintain results, treatments will need to be administered on a recurring basis (see longevity info above).
Some patients find they need filler injected frequently, while others feel their results last longer.
How your body metabolizes the fillers will affect duration, as well as the amount injected in one sitting.
You might hear that fillers can last 1-2 years, but often those studies are basing treatments with 10 or more syringes in one sitting. Most patients are unable to do that many at one time, which is why our patients come for regular appointments based on budget and goals.
Will I need time to recover?
Swelling is normal as well as bruising. Plan at least 2 weeks ahead of any events/vacations.
What should I know about lip filler injections?
What to expect:
During the procedure, an injector will apply a topical anesthetic to the lips to minimize discomfort, and/or if needed, administer a nerve block, Pronox or Subz cooling for pain management.
The filler product is then injected into specific areas of the lips using a fine needle. The medical professional may massage the area to ensure even distribution of the filler.
The amount of filler used and the specific injection technique will depend on the patient’s individual needs and desired results.
Results + Side Effects:
Some common side effects of lip filler include swelling, bruising, and redness, which typically subside within 2-3 weeks. The results depend on the specific filler used and the patient’s individual metabolism.
What should I know about facial balancing injections?
What to expect:
During the procedure, the filler product is then injected into specific areas of the cheeks, chin, or jawline using a fine needle or cannula. The amount of filler used and the specific injection technique will depend on the patient’s individual needs and desired results. For example, cheek fillers are often used to add volume and definition to the cheeks, while chin fillers can be used to improve the balance and symmetry of the face. The procedure typically takes around 30-45 minutes to complete.
Results + Side Effects:
Some common side effects of cheek, chin, and jawline fillers include swelling, bruising, and redness, which typically subside within 2-4 weeks. The results of the procedure depend on the specific filler used and the patient’s individual metabolism.
Sculptra
What is Sculptra®?
Sculptra® is an FDA-approved injectable that helps gradually replace lost collagen. It restores volume while tightening and thickening the skin.
Sculptra® is not like a regular hyaluronic acid filler that immediately volumizes and gives visible results right away. With Sculptra®, you’ll see a natural filling effect within the first couple days, followed but a decrease in volume. At this point, the body slowly starts to produce its own collagen, re-establishing volume that has been lost over time. Peak results are seen after a couple months, but sculptra often takes multiple sessions to achieve desired results.
How does Sculptra® work?
As explained on the Sculptra® website:
"Sculptra Aesthetic is made with biocompatible, biodegradable, synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid, which is gradually and naturally absorbed by the body and helps to rebuild lost collagen through a series of treatments administered by a trained specialist."
The specialist injects treatment within the deep dermis, where strands of collagen support your skin’s structure. Over time, Sculptra Aesthetic helps the body reproduce lost collagen.
On average, three injection appointments are needed over a period of a few months. The number of injection appointments and the number of injections per appointment vary from person to person, depending on how much collagen has been lost.
What is the difference between filler and Sculptra®?
Fillers are gel substances, like hyaluronic acid, that diminish lines by pushing up the dermis space beneath wrinkles and creases. Results appear immediately and can last up to several months.
Collagen stimulators are used to diminish facial wrinkles by helping to restore the deep, underlying structure of the skin. Results appear gradually over the treatment regime (typically three injections every 6-8 weeks) and can last up to 5 years.
How much does Sculptra® cost?
Initially, you will need 1-3 treatments of Sculptra® over the span of a few months. Many of our patients choose to have yearly treatments, but treatments can last 2-5 years without retreatment.
Each vial costs $1000, and the amount needed depends on the area being treated. We do offer promotions/packages for body contouring, which requires multiple vials and sessions.
When will I see results?
Noticeable results are usually visible within 2-4 months.
How long do results last?
Results can last up to two to five years, but vary depending on the area being treated.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments varies from person to person, but on average, three treatments spaced 6-8 weeks apart is recommended.
Will I need time to recover?
Bruising is possible, plan 2 weeks ahead of any events/vacations.

Kybella
What is KYBELLA®?
KYBELLA® is used to permanently diminish small pockets of fat on the body such as a double chin, bra bulges, inner thigh fat, and belly fat.
How does KYBELLA® work?
According to the manufacturer:
“The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, KYBELLA® destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.”
How much does KYBELLA® cost?
You will need at least 3 treatments of KYBELLA®, spaced 7 weeks apart, for optimum results. Some patients will need more treatments to achieve desired results.
Average amount used is 2-3 vials per treatment, but varies depending on the area being treated. Each vial costs $650.
When will I see results?
Noticeable results are visible in 60-90 days, but does require multiple sessions.
How long do results last?
According to the manufacturer:
“When injected into fat under the chin, KYBELLA® causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. After reaching your desired aesthetic, further treatment is not expected.”
How many treatments will I need?
According to the manufacturer:
“The number of treatments varies from patient to patient. Your healthcare specialist will help determine how many treatment sessions you need based on the amount and distribution of your submental fat and your personal treatment goals. Each KYBELLA® treatment session is given at least 1 month apart, and you should not receive more than 6 treatments. In clinical studies, 59% of patients received 6 treatments.”
Will I need time to recover?
Bruising and swelling is common. Give yourself a minimum of 2-4 weeks before any events/vacations.
Manufacturer recommendation:
“After KYBELLA® treatment, you will likely have some swelling, bruising, or numbness under your chin. Be sure to inform your healthcare professional if you develop an uneven smile, facial muscle weakness, difficulty swallowing or injection site problems such as bruising, hair loss, open sores (ulcers), and damage and tissue cell-death (necrosis) around the injection site. Call your healthcare provider if you develop open sores or drainage from the treatment area.”
