FDA approved subcutaneous weekly injection that is used for weight loss. Tirzepatide is both a GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist, which means it mimics the GLP-1 hormone and the GIP hormone. The GIP hormone can also trigger insulin creation and sensations of fullness.
All patients start at the lowest dose and titrate every 4 weeks as tolerated under the guidance of the nurse practitioner. The most common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and indigestion. Our local compounding pharmacy has introduced vitamin B6 with the Tirzepatide to help mitigate these side effects. Patients are advised to be on Tirzepatide for at least 12 months, which allows for patients to develop healthy habits that will continue on once off the medication.
All patients interested will need baseline lab work and initial consultation to review medical and family history.
